Firefox 10 has been released and is available to download for Mac, Windows, and Linux users. The new version isn’t too different from version 9, but includes bug fixes, better extension management, an auto-hiding forward button, improvements to CSS3 capabilities, and antialiasing support for WebGL, as well as some other additions that the average user probably won’t notice. The release notes are posted below for those interested, otherwise just download and enjoy.

Unfortunately, the browser is still lacking the now standardized OS X Lion full-screen button, and the 10.0 release didn’t include any new Mac-specific features. All in all, for a 10.0 release it’s kind of boring, but you can make it more attractive by giving it a Google Chrome style Omnibar with this add-on for Firefox that merges the search and URL bars into one.

Firefox 10 Release Notes:

  • The forward button is now hidden until you navigate back
  • Anti-Aliasing for WebGL is now implemented (see bug 615976)
  • Full Screen APIs allow you to build a web application that runs full screen (see the feature page)
  • CSS3 3D-Transforms are now supported (see bug 505115)
  • New bdi element for bi-directional text isolation, along with supporting CSS properties (see bugs 613149 and 662288)
  • Inspect tool with content highlighting, includes new CSS Style Inspector
  • We’ve added IndexedDB APIs to more closely match the specification
  • Some users may experience a crash when moving bookmarks (681795)
  • Some synaptic touch pads are unable to vertical scroll
  • For some users, scrolling in the main GMail window will be slower than usual
  • If you try to start Firefox using a locked profile, it will crash
  • This version of Firefox will not work on Macintosh hardware with Power PC CPUs
  • Under certain conditions, scrolling and text input may be jerky
  • Firefox notifications may not work properly with Growl 1.3 or later

Facebook extended Timeline access to iPhone users with an app update released today.

In addition to the social network’s new profile design, version 4.1 of the iPhone app provides mobile users access to their friend lists, subscribers, and subscriptions. Facebook says the app also makes it easier to view, upload, and comment on photos.

Facebook says iPad support for mobile Timeline will be coming soon. Timeline, which shows all the updates a person has added to Facebook since they joined the site, was rolled out to Web browsers and Android devices worldwide on Thursday.

The update may help the iPhone app retake its lead in popularity for accessing the social network. Facebook for Android now has 58.3 million average daily users compared with an average of 57.4 million daily users who use the iPhone app to read the site, according to stats complied by AppData.

Good news, everyone! Microsoft has decided that the time has come to make sure that all users of Internet Explorer are using the most current version possible. To accomplish that goal, they’re turning on automatic updates.

Yes, Internet Explorer patches and new major versions are already available via Windows Update. But to move from one version to the next, it’s never been a fully automatic process. There’s a separate install window that appears for installing, say, Internet Explorer 9. For many users, the additional steps required were often enough to prevent them from installing a new version.

And so from now on, Internet Explorer will quietly update itself just as Windows does. Starting in January, users in Australia and Brazil will be the begin receiving automatic IE updates. Microsoft will then gradually extend coverage to other parts of the world as time goes on.

Ryan Gavin, Microsoft’s senior director for Internet Explorer, pointed out several benefits. The overall security of the Windows user community will be improved as outdated browsers are replaced, developers can focus their attention on building sites using modern web code, and those who surf with IE will be able to enjoy the full Beauty of the Web.

But Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about its enterprise customers — there won’t be an admin uproar like the one we saw when Mozilla shifted Firefox to a rapid release cycle. Just as they always have, Microsoft will continue to offer Internet Explorer blocker tools so that network administrators can deploy new browser versions once they’ve been fully tested and won’t cause any application compatibility issues.

There also won’t be any changes made to a user’s default search provider or home page. User preferences won’t be touched as part of this new Internet Explorer update process. You’ll simply be bumped to the most current version available for your version of Windows (IE9 on Vista and Windows 7, IE8 on Windows XP).

It certainly sounds like there’s no downside here. With today’s internet threat landscape, there’s no question that using an outdated browser is a fool’s errand. And you won’t find a web developer anywhere who’s sad to learn that Internet Explorer 6 (and even 7) will soon disappear from Windows XP machines around the globe.

What is SMO?

This can be achieved in earlier versions of SQL Server using Distributed Management Objects (DMO) but now it is no longer supported in SQL Server 2008 R2 and future versions. You can achieve the same using SQL Server Management Objects (SMO) in 2008 R2. SMO provides objects which are used to manage SQL Server.

SMO has different namespaces, Server is the base object in SMO. SMO object model is based on managed code and all are .NET assemblies.

One of the advantage of SMO over DMO is objects are loaded only when you specifically refer in your code so it improves your application performance while interacting server.

You need to refer the following assemblies in your project, which is located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\SDK\Assemblies\

  • Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll
  • Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.dll
  • Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum.dll
  • Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum.dll

Now here is the snippets

Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common

Private Sub btnBackup_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnBackup.Click
Dim oConn As New ServerConnection(<Instance_Name>, <UserID>, <Password>)
Dim oServer As New Server(oConn)
Dim oBackup As New Backup
oBackup.Devices.AddDevice(“d:\backup.bak”, DeviceType.File)
oBackup.Database = <Database>
oBackup.Action = BackupActionType.Database
oBackup.Initialize = True
oBackup.PercentCompleteNotification = 10
AddHandler bkp.PercentComplete, AddressOf ProgressEventHandler
oBackup.SqlBackup(oServer)
End Sub

Private Sub btnRestore_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRestore.Click
Dim oConn As New ServerConnection(<Instance_Name>, <UserID>, <Password>)
Dim oServer As New Server(oConn)
Dim oRestore As New Restore
oRestore.Devices.AddDevice(“d:\backup.bak”, DeviceType.File)
oRestore.Database = _Database
oRestore.Action = RestoreActionType.Database
oRestore.ReplaceDatabase = True
oRestore.PercentCompleteNotification = 10
AddHandler res.PercentComplete, AddressOf ProgressEventHandler
oRestore.SqlRestore(oServer)
End Sub

Private Sub ProgressEventHandler(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As PercentCompleteEventArgs)
Console.WriteLine(e.Percent.ToString + ” % completed”)
End Sub
